Apollo 11 and the First Step

Konstantin Tsiolkovsky--born in 1857--is considered the founding father of modern rocketry and astronautics.  The outward appearance of Tsiolkovsky's spacecraft design, published in 1903, would become the model for modern spaceship design.

On September 12, 1962 at the Rice University commencement, President Kennedy told the assembled crowd:  “We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills . . .”

Seven years later, the Apollo 11 mission would realize both of their dreams

On Tuesday, November 12 at 6 PM, Doug Fowler--former Youngstown State University adjunct instructor in the Departments of Geology and Physics and Astronomy--will retrace the voyage from the theoretical pioneers to Neil Armstrong's first step.

Registration is required.
