The Girard Free Library will put in place a monthly budget cap and circulation restrictions on its Hoopla Digital service, effective Saturday, March 1. Hoopla Digital usage has increased 50% over the past year, and the Library is taking steps to balance the growing demand with limited financial resources.
Starting March 1, the library will implement the following changes to Hoopla’s usage:
- Monthly Spending Cap: There will be a monthly budget cap. It will be divided up to a set amount per day by Hoopla. When the daily amount is reached, no matter the time of day, it will not reset or restart until 12:01 a.m. the next day. Users will get this message: The collective daily borrow limit set by your library has been reached and will reset at midnight. Please browse and add titles to favorites so you can easily access them after midnight.
- Circulation Restrictions: Patrons will be allowed to borrow a maximum of 6 items per month from the Hoopla Digital collection, ensuring equitable access for all library users.
The changes are necessary to ensure that the library can continue to provide this popular service to the community. We will monitor usage patterns and continue to assess the impact of these changes.
