• This November, the Girard Free Library is holding our annual Food for Fines; the Library will offer up to $25 in fine forgiveness to anyone who donates at least two non-perishable food items to the Emmanuel Center. The last day to donate is Tuesday, November 26. 
  • Bring the family on Saturday, November 23 at 11 am for a free movie--Harold and the Purple Crayon.
  • Join us at 6:00 p.m. on December 3rd, for the Culture Book Group and discuss A Holly Jolly Diwali by Sonya Lalli, or December 4th for the Popular Literature Book Group and bring your favorite book and introduce it to others.

Beginning Thursday, October 7 the library will offer after school crafts.  On Thursdays at 3:30, grades 4 through 6 can drop in to make a fun seasonal project.  No registration is necessary. Call Mrs. Selak at 545-2508 ext. 107 for more information.  

Great Books Discussion Group

Have you ever thought about reading (or re-reading) the classics but needed some moral support and a little guidance from an English teacher? Join the library's Great Books Discussion Group, where you can dip into the literary canon in a more informal setting.  In November, the group will read Gothic suspense novel Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.  The newly wedded Mrs. de Winter moves into her husband's Cornwall estate Manderley, only to be met with constant reminders of the departed first Mrs.

Pumpkin Painting Party

The Library will be having a Pumpkin Painting Party on Saturday, October 23 from 12 PM to 2 PM.  Kids can make their pumpkins funny, frightening or festive.  Plus, there will be fall-inspired photo backdrops and games, and a food truck will be serving up delicious snacks.  Weather permitting, all activities will be outdoors.  Call the Circulation Desk at 330-545-2508 to reserve a pumpkin today; sign-up is required.

The Book Group will discuss The Library Book by Susan Orlean.  Orlean delves into the unsolved mystery of the catastrophic Los Angeles Public Library fire, which was the largest library fire in the United States.

Play Halloween Jingo in our children's department.  Jingo is a variation of bingo; players will cover pictures (instead of numbers) that answer Halloween trivia questions.  Have fun while learning more about Halloween.  There will be prizes and treats, and grades one through six are invited.

The Book Group discusses Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate.  The novel is a fictional account of Georgia Tann, the director of an adoption agency who arranged the kidnapping and selling of poor children to wealthy families.
