• This November, the Girard Free Library is holding our annual Food for Fines; the Library will offer up to $25 in fine forgiveness to anyone who donates at least two non-perishable food items to the Emmanuel Center. The last day to donate is Tuesday, November 26. 
  • Bring the family on Saturday, November 23 at 11 am for a free movie--Harold and the Purple Crayon.
  • Join us at 6:00 p.m. on December 3rd, for the Culture Book Group and discuss A Holly Jolly Diwali by Sonya Lalli, or December 4th for the Popular Literature Book Group and bring your favorite book and introduce it to others.

Our Feathered Friends Family Funtime on Monday, April 10 at 6 PM will be a real hoot. Build an egg carton birdfeeder, search during an outdoor scavenger hunt, and check out stories about birds. Flock to this, or you'll egret it. Registration is required; call or stop in to sign up.

Library staff will lead the kids through basic recipes--from the assembly of ingredients to preparation of the food to sampling of the finished dish. On Thursday, May 4 at 6 PM, the Library is proud to welcome historian and local author Joseph Lambert, Jr.  His current book is First Citizen: the Industrious Life of Joseph G. Butler, Jr.. Butler co-founded Ohio Steel, masterminded the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial, and created the Butler Museum of American Art.

This lively and illuminating program will take you on a roller coaster ride through the history of one of the most storied franchises in the NFL. Author and veteran sports writer Marty Gitlin, who covered the Browns in the newspaper field and for CBS Sports, will discuss and show videos of the greatest and most interesting players, teams, events and moments since the franchise were born, including the years of perennial championships from 1946 to 1964. Watch the exploits of such superstars as Otto Graham, Marion Motley, Jim Brown and Paul Warfield through the 1960s.

Want to learn the basics of knitting?  Don't unravel.  Join Gwen Brown of Gwen Erin Natural Fibers for a four-week crash course and purls of wisdom.  Start with casting, proceed to knit stitch, and then bind off.  Plus, learn various ways of holding your yarn and needles. Finish with a pair of fingerless gloves.  Attendance is limited, and sign-up is required.  There is a $15.00 fee that must be paid at time of registration.
