• This November, the Girard Free Library is holding our annual Food for Fines; the Library will offer up to $25 in fine forgiveness to anyone who donates at least two non-perishable food items to the Emmanuel Center. The last day to donate is Tuesday, November 26. 
  • Bring the family on Saturday, November 23 at 11 am for a free movie--Harold and the Purple Crayon.
  • Join us at 6:00 p.m. on December 3rd, for the Culture Book Group and discuss A Holly Jolly Diwali by Sonya Lalli, or December 4th for the Popular Literature Book Group and bring your favorite book and introduce it to others.

Picture Book Illustrator Allyson Hayes

On Wednesday, June 8 at 1 PM, the Library will welcome children’s picture book illustrator and Girard High School class of 2002 alumnus Allyson Hayes. Hayes is the illustrator of the recently released Luna Muna: Outer Space Adventures of a Kid Astronaut by Kelli Gerardi. In the book, a little girl who loves outer space wishes on a shooting star and then discovers a secret power: when she wears her sparkly space helmet, she can float like an astronaut. Ms. Hayes will read the book aloud, discuss her illustrations, and show children how to do art of their own.

Kids in the Kitchen is back on Thursday, June 30 at 4 PM. Aspiring chefs in grades two through six will learn cooking skills from scratch during these events. Library staff will lead the kids through basic recipes--from the assembly of ingredients to preparation of the food to sampling of the finished dish. Registration is required. Please call 330-545-2508 to sign up by the preceding Tuesday so we have time to go to the grocery store.

We've decorated the inside of the library for our Oceans of Possibility summer program.  Now families can help us transform the outside by turning our sidewalks into seascapes and other aquatic scenes using sidewalk chalk.
