On Wednesday, August 3 at 6 PM adults can visit exotic locations without leaving the community room during Seven Wonders of the Seven Seas Armchair Travel. There won’t be any cancelled flights or double-booked seats as library staff introduce you to Thingvellir National Park in Iceland and Ithaa in the Maldives—the world’s first underwater restaurant. Nobody will have to be scuba-certified to explore the Underwater Post Office in Japan, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, Jellyfish Lake in Palau, and other fascinating locales. Registration is required.

On Tuesday, August 2 at 5:30 PM, teens can test their wits in the Bermuda Triangle escape room. Dozens of ships and aircraft have vanished into this notorious corner of the Atlantic Ocean. Ages twelve to eighteen will board a flight in Washington DC, and then solve riddles, crack a combination lock, and decipher a map to prevent their group from disappearing into thin air. This is our biggest book sale of the year--Monday, August 29 from 9 AM to 7 PM; Tuesday, August 30 from 9 AM to 7 PM; and Wednesday, August 31 from 9 AM to 7 PM.  Wednesday is also Buck a Bag Day; fill a bag or box  for only $1.  Find bargains in our wide selection of paperbacks, hardbacks, picture books, and audiovisuals. All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Girard Free Library. The Friends sponsor the summer reading program, fund special events and speakers, and purchase equipment and furnishings.
